Siliguri is the third largest city in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal. It enjoys the highest literacy rate in the state.The city is a hub of various businesses and shopping malls. There is another Tibetan establishment called the Kalchakra Monastery at Salugara, about 7 km from Siliguri on the way to Sevoke. Dudhia is a spot on Siliguri-Mirik highway and it is good for excursion and long drive. Science City at Matigara is also a place worth visiting. It has a museum and a planetarium as well. Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in Sukna. This is a favorite place to spot elephants and peacocks. It is not open during the monsoons and operates between September 16 to July 14. Vehicle on rent are available at this spot for your safari. You can also indulge in some shopping of the handicrafts items at Siliguri street bazaars. You can also try some cuisines in the momogali. The airport closest to Siliguri is in Bagdogra. It is about 14 km. You can find many hotels in Siliguri near the airport as well. It takes a couple of days to explore the place. Darjeeling too can be explored on the same trip.
